Configuring a Cisco ATA186 / ATA188 for GnuGk

Thanks to Vladimir Botka for these hints!

First steps

  • Read the Cisco ATA186 manual
  • Configure IP address (voice menu or DHCP - try voice menu first)
  • Get H323 image and load it to ATA186 (TFTP recommended)
  • Configure ATA186 and use syslog (not necessary, but very useful) First use the http interface and if the configuration is working, put it into the config files to load it via TFTP (don't forget to format the config files with "cfgfmt" (included in H323 image)
  • Configure GnuGk
  • Try to call

Insufficient bandwidth

The problem was solved by "Enable h245 tunneling" on Cisco ATA. By default the bit 1 in parameter ConnectMode is 0 (disable h245 tunneling). So, when using Cisco ATA on internal network behind NAT & FW registered with GnuGk in routed mode

[RoutedMode]
GKRouted=1
H245Routed=0
SupportNATedEndpoints=1

Cisco ATA is not able to negotiate PSTN connection parameters unless h245 tunneling is enabled. If you got similar problem try:

ConnectMode:0x00060402

instead of default

ConnectMode:0x00060400
